We are marking Black History Month by hosting a special series of conversations about the labor movement’s special tie to civil rights.
Check out the second episode here.
Amanda Goodman Berry, a Delta Air Lines worker who is helping to organize workers into the IAM, celebrates Black History Month by discussing the activism of Edgar (E.D.) Daniel Nixon, who was a Civil Rights leader and union organizer in Alabama. He, along with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., played a crucial role in organizing the Montgomery bus boycott there in 1955. Nixon is also famous for his involvement with the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, an African American union founded by A. Philip Randolph.
